MATHEMATICAL ROUTES
Presentation
The Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Valencia, in collaboration with the Al-Khwârizmî mathematical Education Society of the Valencian Community, organises the Mathematical Routes in the city of Valencia within the framework of the annual plan of science dissemination activities that has the cofunding of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The activity aims to use the urban environment as a didactic resource for the dissemination, teaching and learning of mathematics with the aim that secondary school and baccalaureate students develop positive attitudes towards them and achieve more meaningful learning, while they are encouraged to see and appreciate the mathematics around us in a friendly way.
The Routes
Currently three itineraries are offered:
Route 1: From the Serrans towers to the Botanical Garden (meeting point in plaça dels Furs, next to the towers).
Route 4: From Colom market to La Nau (meeting point at the door of the market, at Jorge Juan street).
Route 5: From the Grau shipyards to the Cabanyal market (meeting point at the shipyards door).
Offer
UCCI + i offers an indefinite number of routes until the budget for this activity is exhausted. The final number of routes will depend on the groups assigned to each route. Each business day two routes are offered on different itineraries. Here you have a calendar indicating the routes and days that are already booked.
Requests
Applications will be processed through the web form that you will find on this page. The UCC+i will assign you the preferred dates and routes or, if booked by another centre, the possible alternatives. After reviewing the request, an email will be sent with the reservation confirmation.
The application period for the 2022-2023 academic year is closed. Registration for this activity has been temporarily suspended due to the large number of applications received.
Conditions to participate in the activity
In order to reach the largest number of participants and centres, this activity is offered free of charge in all centres with secondary education and baccalaureate students.
The routes are designed for 4th year of ESO students. The monitors can adapt the route to lower levels of the ESO, but in this case it is recommended that the specialist teachers carry out some prior work in the classroom.
A maximum of 45 people can participate in each route. Those centres that have numerous groups of the same educational level may request a second route, which will be different if requested for the same day, or the same if requested on another day.
Development of the activity
The people who will monitor the routes will meet with students and teachers at their meeting point at 10:00. A maximum of 5 groups of 9 people per monitor will be created who will act autonomously. In order to form the groups from the beginning of the activity, they will be previously formed by the centres.
The route will begin with an introduction to the itinerary and will deliver the necessary material (measuring tapes, clinometres, calculators, educational notebooks...). The estimated duration of each route is 3h 30m.
