Description

Deposit can be performed in three ways:

  • Public deposit: Free service. The strains deposited in this mode will be included in the public catalogue of the CECT and are therefore available to the national and international scientific community. This is the type of deposit required when a new prokaryotic species is to be described.
  • Restricted deposit: Special service for long-term deposit of micro-organisms. The CECT mainatins the strains and ensures their viability. The authenticity is responsibility of the depositor. Distribution of this type of strains is made up upon written request of the depositor. Any information concerning the deposit and the nature of the deposited micro-organism is treated with absolute confidentiality.
  • Deposit for patent purposes: Deposit of bacteria, archaea, filamentous fungi and yeasts according to the Budapest Treaty for patent purposes.

In every case, the material is conserved by 2 different methods and a duplicate is kept in a different building on the Burjassot-Paterna campus of the UV, following the OECD guidelines for Biological Resource Centres.

Practical implementation
  • Preservation of microbial biodiversity.
  • Development of biotechnological applications.
