The museum, that reminds us of the importance of recovering and spreading the educative historic heritage of Valencia with a permanent exposition, is born from a collaboration between the Generalitat, through the department of Education, Culture and Sports, and the University of Valencia
The University of Valencia, through the vice-rectorate of Culture and Society and the Faculty of Teacher Training, have worked on the recovery of the education’s historical memory as a relevant material for the reflection about the current teaching-learning process.
This work constituted the creation of the School Museum, located in the Faculty of Teacher Training, an ideal placement having in mind this is the place where the people who will dedicate themselves to teaching will be trained.
The inauguration, that took place on the 27th of February at 12:30h on the hall of the Faculty of Teacher Training, was headed by the rector of the University, Mavi Mestre, and included the participation of Ana Botella, dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training; the Emeritus Professor Alejandro Mayordomo; the Professor Cristina Sendra, head of initiative responsible for the School Museum and the members of the board of directors and the dean team.
This event is included in the Weeks of Complementary Activities (SAC for its acronym in Spanish), academic periods characterized by the execution of several different activities that complement the formation obtained in conventional lessons inside the classrooms and that are not possible in the usual structure of the courses.
One of the goals of the museum is to show the essential traits of the historical construction of our public school system, a long fight to make everyone’s right to education a reality, and to materialize the practice of a modern pedagogy.
The School Museum is part of the several permanent museums and museum collections from where the University of Valencia makes accessible for the university community and the general public, the rich cultural and scientific heritage that has been formed throughout the years thanks to its teaching and researching activities, for study, research, pleasure or leisure purposes.
