Credit recognition is the process in which a university accepts the credits obtained in other official studies to take part in the academic record and compute for obtaining an official title different to the one the credits come from. Therefore, it allows to use past subjects or experiences since they count as part of the degree the person is studying. The credits for an Undergraduate Degree Final Project (TFG) or a Master’s Degree Final Project (TFM) are not object of recognition unless they have been obtained in a mobility programme.

Furthermore, credit transfer entails the addition, in an academic record and in the Diploma Supplement (DS), of the sum of the credits obtained by the student in official courses taken in the past, in any university and which have not aided in obtaining an official title. Credit transfer between two university degrees does not apply in case both degrees are being studied simultaneously. In this situation, credit transfer will only be possible when the student renounces the simultaneity by abandoning one of the degrees.

For which studies can I request credit recognition?

1. Official University Studies: Degree and Master's Degree

Credits recognition can be requested from other official studies as long as the contents and competences of the completed subjects are compatible with those of the curriculum of the other title. It applies to degrees and master’s degrees of the same subject area and to those of other subject areas.

If credit recognition is requested between degrees of the same subject area, all the obtained credits of basic training of the same subject area as the other title can be recognised.

2. Official Non-University Studies: higher vocational education and training programmes (CFGS)

Credits recognition can be requested for Advanced vocational education and training studies (CFGS) in the following situations:

  • When there is a direct connexion between a CFGS and a degree, 30 ECTS credits can be recognised as stablished in the table of equivalences present in the collaboration agreement between the Valencian government (Generalitat Valenciana) and the public universities.
  • In the situations present in the ‘precedents for recognition’ of each faculty or school.
  • When a student is able to prove that the contents and competences of the completed training and its coursework are equivalent to the one for which the recognition is being requested.

More information on CFGS credit recognition.

3. Other credit recognitions

  • Professional or work experience. The professional or work experience proved to be closely related to the knowledge and competences of the university studies can be recognised as credits. Preferably, credit recognition will be for subjects present in the curriculum as ‘external internship’.
  • Non-Official University Studies. Lifelong Learning UV Specific Degrees.
  • University Training Activities. For participation in cultural, sport, for student representation, and solidary and cooperative university activities, up until 6 credits can be recognised as optional or participation credits. The activities that can be recognised are present, for each degree, in the annual proposals for university participation activities approved by the Governing Council of the UV.

The number of credits, object of recognition from the professional or work experience and of non-official university studies (specific UV titles or lifelong learning), cannot exceed a 15 % of all of the credits of the other title.

How to request credit transfer or recognition?

1. Request

During the enrolment period a credit transfer or recognition application form must be presented through the option ‘Credit recognition’ in the Service Portal, available in the ‘Administrative management’ section. The application form must have the certifying documents stablished in the regulation attached. It is important to highlight that the student must enrol in the corresponding subjects, since the resolution on credit recognition will be uploaded after the end of the enrolment period. If credit recognition creates a reduction on the enrolment, it can be raised through the ‘Amendment of enrolment’ procedure stablished by the centres.

2. Resolution and effects

  • A month after the end of the application period, the Dean or Director of the centre will resolve the request, after informing the academic committee responsible of the official title.
  • If the credit recognition is accepted, the credits will be added to the academic record indicating the number of credits, the title ‘recognised’ and the grade obtained. The added credits are used to calculate the final average grade of the academic record. However, the credits recognised for university participation activities and for professional or work experience will be added to the academic record without a grade, only as ‘apt’ and will not be used to calculate the final average grade of the academic record.
  • If the credit recognition is accepted, the credits will be added to the academic record but will not be used to calculate the final average grade of it.

3. Public prices

  • For the study of the requests and the addition of the recognised credits to the academic record, the prices stablished by Valencian Government will be applied regarding the academic and university complementary services.
  • Credits transfer between academic records of other studies of the Universitat de València does not entail the payment of public prices.
