The recognition of Eugenio Coronado, also scientific coordinator of the complementary R&D plan in Advanced Materials of the Government of Spain, has been promoted by the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences of the UAM. His godfather is Tomás Torres Cebadas, in an act in which Pedro Miguel Echenique, professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV) and president of the Donostia International Physics Center, was named honorary doctor.

Eugenio Coronado (Valencia, 1959), who in 2020 received a Humboldt Award and in 2014 a Blaise Pascal International Chair, is director of the European Institute of Molecular Magnetism (EIMM), founded in 2008. His research fields focus on Molecular Magnetism, Multifunctional Molecular Materials and Polyoxometalate Chemistry. For more than 25 years he has led these areas and has made highly relevant contributions. More recently, his research focus has turned towards Molecular Spintronics, which resulted in him being awarded an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) in 2009 to carry out the Magnetic Molecules and Hybrid Materials for Molecular Spintronics project, known as SPINMOL, and participate in the COST Action MOLSPIN in 2016.

Eugenio Coronado’s research career has been recognised with several awards, both in Spain and abroad: King Jaime I Award for New Technologies (2003), Award and Medal for Chemical Research of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (2009), Enrique Moles National Research Award in Chemical Sciences (2009) and Medal of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics (2019). He is a member of the Academia Europaea since 2009.
