Culture does not happen in a vacuum. Every artistic expression, every heritage manifestation, and every cultural experience are deeply rooted in a territory. "Place" is not just a physical space but a key factor that shapes and conditions cultural processes, giving them identity and meaning. In this sense, culture is always linked to a map, to a geographical context that influences its development and perception. Understanding this relationship is essential for effective cultural planning. Where are cultural resources located? What gaps and opportunities exist in each territory? How do cultural dynamics affect districts, cities, rural areas, or regions? Answering these questions requires tools to analyze the distribution, impacts, and transformations that culture generates in space. Cultural maps thus emerge as fundamental instruments for evaluation and strategic decision-making in cultural matters.

Fortunately, in recent years, advances in geolocation technologies, the availability of open data, and new territorial visualization platforms have revolutionized our ability to analyze and represent culture in the territory. Today, we have tools that were unthinkable a decade ago, opening new possibilities for evidence-based cultural planning and management.

This seminar invites participants to explore how spatial analysis of culture can enrich our planning strategies and what opportunities emerging technologies offer to map the cultural ecosystem with greater precision and depth. Combining these elements, we propose a session to review the state of the art on this topic and showcase some initiatives being developed at the University of Valencia.
