The series of open to the public talks of the Girls2STEM Professional project has scheduled for Thursday 13 May at 05.30 p.m. a session dedicated to our patroness Rosa Menéndez, president of the CSIC.

On this occasion, Rosa Menéndez López is our patroness. Rosa Menéndez is a chemist, scientist and she is the first woman to preside the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), since November 2017. Her education in Chemical Sciences has allowed her to research in different areas, such as materials science and energy. He has optimised coal conversion processes, revaluing its derivatives, and also those of petroleum. This allowed her to initiate a line of research on graphene for applications in energy storage, nuclear fusion reactors and biomedicine. She has directed about twenty regional, national and European research projects, and he has published more than 200 articles in high impact journals. We hope to hear a few words from our patroness at the beginning of the talk.

Then, four professional women form scientific-technological fields will participate in this talk, who will tell in an entertaining way about their professional careers, their achievements and challenges, and how is their day to day life in their profession from an informative perspective and also as a woman in the STEM world (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Kristell Santander Tarín: is CEO at NEVAL, an Agricultural Research company (Plant Pathology and Biotechnology) Her company is a pioneer in plant-parasitic nematode research, and develops plant nutrition and protection products.

María Dominguez Castellano: is a research professor at the Institute of Neurosciences (Miguel Hernández University-CSIC). She works in biomedical cancer research, and leads the group Molecular basis of growth control and cancer in Drosophila.

María Moreno Llácer: has a PhD in Physics, and did postdoctoral stays at the University of Gottingen and CERN. She is currently working as a researcher in the area of particle physics and data science at IFIC, as well as being a lecturer and member of the ATLAS experiment. She has won multiple academic awards.

This talk, aimed to the general public and, especially, to teachers from different educational levels, is part of the activities organised by Girls4STEM from the ETSE-UV, the Vice-principal for Equality, Diversity and Sustainability and the Equality Unit of Universitat de València, and has the support of the Government of the Valencian Community.

The main objective of the Girls4STEM project is to promote vocations in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) among the general public and, in particular, among girls.
