On 19 June, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia kicked off the 15th edition of the Family Business Course entitled "Key aspects for its competitiveness and sustainability". This event was organised by the Chair of Family Business in collaboration with its promoters the Valencian Association of Entrepreneurs (AVE), the School of Entrepreneurs (EDEM), the Valencian Institute for the Study of Family Business (IVEFA), the Institute of Family Business (IEF), the University of Valencia (UV), and is sponsored by CaixaBank and Broseta.

The opening day was marked by a welcome speech by Alejandro Escribá, director of the Chair, who gave a warm welcome to the students of the course. 

The best part of the day was the inspiring keynote speech presented by José Vicente López, CEO of the Mercadalia Group. The CEO shared with the audience the fascinating story of this family-owned company in the food sector, owner of renowned companies such as Damel Group and Boston Nutraceutical Science, both leaders in their respective business areas. The presentation, entitled "From everything to nothing and from nothing to everything", recounted the origins and evolution of the company, as well as its vision, mission and focus on innovation. It was a unique opportunity to learn from the experience of a successful leader in the field of family business.

The Family Business Course aims to:

- Understand the nature of a family business.

- Analyse its strengths and challenges.

- Understand the culture and typical conflicts in this environment.

- To present tools for the management and governance of the company.

- Address legal, tax and succession issues.
