Feminist Economics Chair opens its programme of activities with a conference by Lourdes Benería

Next Thursday 16 November, the Feminist Economics Chair of the Universitat de València opens its conferences programme with the presence of the distinguished professor and economist Lourdes Benería, who will speak about the new and important challenges of the Feminist Economy.

This inaugural conference of the of Feminist Economics Chair will have a very special patronage. Lourdes Benería is professor emeritus at University of Cornell and one of the pioneers applying the feminist critical theory to the analysis of economy and its effects on people’s living conditions. She was also one of the first researchers to draw attention about women's work positions and gender inequality.

In addition, Benería has been part of international associations such as the IAFFE (Association for Feminist Economics) and has published dozens of books and scientific and popular articles, always with the aim of highlighting a feminist approach to the economy. This work, developed during several decades has been awarded with many recognitions, the Narcís Monturiol Medal of the Catalan government in 2002 among them.

The event will take place on Thursday 19 November at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València, and will be led by María Luisa Moltó, director of the Feminist Economics Chair and the driving force of gender studies in UV.
