The academic programme for the next edition of the Gandia Summer University includes specialised seminars for postgraduate and doctoral students, as well as research staff.

Next year’s edition offers, among its extensive training programme, specialised seminars for postgraduate and doctoral students, as well as research staff.

The Faculty of Geography and History offers three seminars. The first one is a specialised seminar on Medieval History, which aims not only to present the latest research carried out by academics, but also to allow students to submit their papers. The second one is a seminar titled ‘Forest fires. Environmental impacts, management and planning in the face of global changes’ that will review the advances in scientific knowledge understanding of the effects of fire on soil and vegetation, and the monitoring of burned areas. The last seminar is ‘Female Creators in Contemporary Europe’, a proposal that aims to carry out a comparative analysis of the activities developed by female artists in the Spanish, French and Italian cultural scenes.

This UEG edition also offers the seminar ‘Psychology in primary health care in the Valencian Community. Advances in research and treatment for anxiety and depression in primary health care.’ The seminar addresses key issues, such as implementing psychological therapy in primary health care, the use of a protocol-based model of integrated IT Health tools for collecting and processing large quantities of data, as well as analysing this data to improve therapeutic results, within a framework of high-performance scientific-professional research. To this end, the seminar includes the participation of high-level professors, researchers and clinical staff from various universities and health systems, including the Universitat de València and the Valencian Healthcare System and the University of Barcelona and the Catalonian Healthcare System, as well as the University College London and the National Health System of England, among others.

The Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication offers two interesting seminars. The first one focuses on innovation in journalism in an era of information disorder. The seminar seeks to explore the solutions and opportunities in the communication field offered by a very dynamic environment. The second seminar is aimed at students specialising in Spanish literature, since it seeks to analyse poetry in a period of effervescence titled ‘Divergent lines in contemporary Spanish poetry.’

Artificial intelligence is also the main focus in a specialised course in the next UEG edition. The seminar is titled ‘Randomness vs Determination: the basis of AI. Designing reality through statistical analysis and prediction.’ The course is aimed at anyone who has completed any basic elementary mathematics subject in the first year of a degree programme and wishes to understand how artificial intelligence works.

Finally, two seminars that offer more cross-disciplinary competences, such as entrepreneurship, and which may be of interest to doctoral students. The first seminar is titled ‘Social entrepreneurship as a backbone of the territory’, organised by UVemprén; and the second one is ‘Entrepreneurship and sustainability: designing, testing, and scaling sustainable business models.’

The full programme of the 41st edition of the Gandia Summer University consists of 18 courses and registration is now open for all of them.
