Séquia d'Or
1829
According to the València City Council's project for the restoration of the area around the Or diversion dam, the acequia (irrigation canal) of Or is the last of the irrigation canals in l’Horta (the irrigated land) of València which irrigates the land on the right bank of the Túria River, between the riverbed to the south of the same and the Mediterranean Sea, most of which is rice land in the Albufera Natural Park. The Or acequia was officially opened in July 1829, so we can chronologically place the origin of the dam also in the 19th century. The main function of the irrigation canal was to irrigate the lands located to the south of the municipal district of València and Alfafar. In January 1974, the irrigation community obtained the water concession, which obliged it to use the water from the Or acequia, the principal of which would be made up of the surplus water from the other irrigation canals and the city's waste water. This problem would be solved with the incorporation of the purified water from the Pinedo station, in the first place, and from the change of sluice gates at “La Cazuela”, in the second place.
According to the Restoration Plan for the area around the Or diversion dam, this area has undergone a severe transformation over the last ten years, motivated by the construction peak and the definitive development of the City of Arts and Sciences. The Oceanogràfic, the Or diversion dam Bridge and the Àgora are very unique and monumental constructions that, despite the drift of time, have kept the Casa de Comportes and the diversion dam undamaged in their original location. The Casa de Comportes is still in good condition, as are its masonry and brick load-bearing structures, but it requires a general intervention on its roof, where the lack of maintenance has caused the roof tiles to break and the consequent leaks that are accelerating the ruin of the wooden structure that supports it, which needs to be completely replaced and rebuilt. The building was renovated in 1990, which has allowed it to be in a fairly acceptable condition.
