L'Horta de València, like the rest of the historic Valencian huertas, has a long history of more than a thousand years behind it. A living space that has been lived by our present generations, it has also been so in past centuries because it is not a natural space governed by the laws of nature but, on the contrary, a very complex human construction. That is why it has accumulated over time a wide range of elements of material culture, but also of immaterial culture, all of which are a present and current witness of our historical heritage.

In order to be able to work the land and irrigate it, to be able to collect and circulate water, to be able to walk on it, to be able to inhabit it, to be able to work in other non-agricultural jobs that complemented or expanded the economy of its inhabitants, to be able to delimit it, to be able to meet in collective secular and religious spaces, for all this it was necessary for its population to build all kinds of terraces and terraces, irrigation channels, ditches, ditches and dividers, weirs, roads, paths, bridges, aqueducts, houses, barracks, farmhouses, barns, mills, factories, churches and chapels, villages and squares, milestones and boundary markers.

All this is the Heritage of l'Horta that we are bringing together in this catalogue. Many of them have disappeared, but even so, a part of them have reached us in better or worse condition, some of them very old, from centuries ago, and others from the last century, but all of them very valuable witnesses of the historical culture of life and work of the people of l'Horta.
