Chronology

XIX-XX centuries.

History

According to J. A García Esparza (2012), this barraca (hut) would be 200 years old, but according to M. Del Rey and A. Gallud (PGOU, 2013 and PAT of l’Horta 2018) it would be a 20th century barraca. Nevertheless, as in the case of many of these popular buildings in l’Horta (the irrigated land in València), it is not easy to give a more concrete chronology. As in the whole of the periphery of the city of València, many of these barraques (huts) were built during the 19th or early 20th century, even with possible important modifications on the same site. These barraques do not usually appear in the documents of the past centuries in an identifiable form by names or place names, while at an oral level they were usually known in their surroundings by the name or nickname of the people who owned or lived there. For this reason, the name of the barraca was frequently modified due to the change of residence of these people, and it is difficult to determine the specific history of the owners, works, etc., without family witnesses.

Description

According to M. Del Rey and A. Gallud (PGOU of València, 2013, and PAT of l’Horta 2018) this barraca (hut) “is framed in the landscape of linear structure formed by the houses around the Barcelona road, sometimes with attached houses, others including cultivated fields”. Behind the houses is the irrigated land, which can be reached by transversal paths that start near the houses, which still allows said landscape to be seen. According to these authors, it is a good example of these buildings due to its proportions, floor plan and arrangement of doors and windows, although the interior has been altered for use as a casal faller. It also has a porch at the back that extends the building as well as another one-on-one side and an enclosed courtyard. According to J. A. García Esparza (2012), the façade has the traditional structure of a side door and two windows at the top, all whitewashed, with the roof supported by wooden beams and covered with corrugated fibre concrete slabs, which are the most obvious improper element. The floor plan is estimated at almost 80 m2 (861.1ft2), with a frontage of 6.30 m (20ft 8in) wide and a depth of 12.69 m (41ft 7.6n). The height is 7.20 m (23ft 7.4in). The building has a floor area of 7.20 m. The height is 7.20 m (23ft 7.4in). It is also equipped with electricity and well water.
