It is located on the road to Carpesa in Alfara del Patriarca, known as the “camino del Calvario” (the Calvary road), on the side of the road to the alquería (farmhouse) of Gilet. It works as boundary between the municipality of València and Alfara.
15th-16th centuries, rebuilt.
The general Valencian name for these milestones formed by a column with a cross at the top is peiró. In this case, the promoter was the Municipal Council of the city of Valencia in medieval times, since for centuries these parts of l'Horta de València (Valencian Orchard) have been part of the capital. In fact, these peirons marked the city limits. We do not have specific data on their origins in time. They are usually from the late Middle Ages, from the 15th century, but in some cases they have suffered more or less significant destruction and have been rebuilt on more than one occasion.
It is located next to the road, in a completely orchard environment and without any kind of alterations. It is a simple peiró, similar to those that existed and still exist in some cases in many Valencian villages at their entrance or to mark boundaries. All of them consist of three parts: a stone base, a vertical column or shaft, and a cross at the top, all of which is also made of stone and, in the case of the latter, may be highly decorated and of good artistic quality. In this case, a modern, simple, square base has been preserved, with only one concrete step of about 35 cm in visible height. Above it is the limestone column, about 2 metres high, with an octagonal stone base. At the top, there is a modern iron cross with two horizontal arms, a “cross of Caravaca”, installed a few years ago by the Alfara del Patriarca Town Council, as explained in the PAT de l'Horta (2018).
