Georg Kofler joined the WU Institute of Austrian and International Tax Law as Professor of International Tax Law on 1 October 2020. He has been working in the field of taxation, for almost two decades and has written, taught and lectured extensively on a wide range of topics in this field, including tax treaty law, EU tax law, domestic and cross-border corporate taxation and corporate reorganisations, the constitutional framework of taxation and digitalisation. He is a member of several formal and informal research networks, including the Permanent Scientific Committee (PSC) and the International Fiscal Association (IFA). He is the president of the D-A-CH Tax Committee and the CFE Tax Advisors of Europe’s ECJ Task Force.
Professor Kofler received his Doctoral Degree in Law and Business Administration in 2002 and 2003, respectively, and an LLM in International Taxation in 2004 from New York University, where he was also a Lecturer in Taxation from 2006 to 2008. In 2006 he obtained a postdoctoral professorship (‘Habilitation’) with a thesis on ‘Double Taxation Conventions and European Community Law’, which was awarded several prizes, including the Mitchell B. Caroll Prize of the IFA. He gained practical experience in the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance and frequently acts as an expert in all areas of taxation. Recently, he has been a visiting professor at the University of Florida (2013 and 2018), the University of Sydney (2016) and New York University (2019). Prior to joining WU, he was a Senior Lecturer in Taxation and Director of the Institute of Taxation Law at the University of Linz.
