Irene J.J. Burgers (1962, Deventer, The Netherlands) is Professor of International and European Tax Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Groningen and Professor of Tax Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Groningen.
The International Fiscal Association awarded her the Mitchell B. Carroll Award in 1992 for her doctoral thesis ‘The allocation of tax benefits to branches of internationally operating banking companies’.
She worked as a tax consultant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers. She was also one of the independent members of the EU Arbitration Committee (1995 - 2012). She is a member of the Groningen Centre of Energy Law, the European Accounting Association, the European Association of Tax Law Professors and the International Fiscal Association.
