The UV to host a congress on the fight against climate change and the rights of nature, co-organised by the Chair

  • April 28th, 2022

On June 29 and 30, the UV’s Faculty of Law will host this event, which will bring together various national and international experts to discuss how Mediterranean cooperation should combat climate change.

The congress The fight against climate change and the recognition of the rights of nature: Synergies of Mediterranean cooperation, organised by the Research Group Democracia+ of the Universitat de València together with other entities such as the Inter-University Chair for New Green Transition, will bring together experts on climate change and the measures to be taken by public authorities to tackle it. The event will take place at the UV’s Faculty of Law on June 29 and 30, 2022 and will focus on diagnosis and solutions from the perspective of law, economics and social sciences in general. It will focus on how Mediterranean cooperation should combat climate change, and on the concept of "rights of nature" within the Mediterranean.

At a time when climate change is a global problem, new legal avenues need to be found to strengthen the fight for land sustainability, especially in the Mediterranean. The recognition of the rights of nature in various legal systems, as well as the implementation of the UN's Harmony with Nature programme, make "Earth jurisprudence" one of the most powerful tools available to us in the fight for a green world.
The congress will be held in person and will be streamed. The lectures and papers will be published in a volume as congress proceedings.
