The Maritime English in the Digital Age course concludes with training in maritime English, digitalisation and AI for Castellón port professionals.

The Maritime English in the Digital Age course, held at the Autoridad Portuaria de Castellón, has been successfully completed after four training sessions aimed at the Castellón port community.

This initiative was promoted by the Fundación PortCastelló and organised in collaboration with the SPARK Research Group at the Universitat Jaume I, the IULMA (Interuniversity Institute of Modern Applied Languages) and the Cátedra Smart Ports at the Universitat Jaume I.

The opening session was delivered by Ana Bocanegra Valle from the Universidad de Cádiz. The remaining sessions were taught by Begoña Bellés Fortuño, Lucía Bellés Calvera and Alba Mingarro Medina, who covered key aspects of Maritime English in digital contexts.

Throughout the course, participants explored Smart Ports concepts, port operations terminology, ship handling basics and sector-specific abbreviations. The programme also addressed digitalisation and AI applications in maritime environments, including tools such as ChatGPT, MarineGPT, MarineTraffic, PortXchange, DeepL and Grammarly.

In addition, the course featured immersive VR demonstrations, hands-on classroom activities and tasks focused on real-life communication scenarios, including emergency response, AI-supported decision-making and Just-in-Time arrivals coordination.

This course has strengthened Maritime English competence, a key skill in today’s smart port ecosystem, and enhanced professional training in the port logistics sector.
