A recent article published in Didáctica. Lengua y Literatura, by Anabel Martínez, presents an innovative teaching proposal based on the use of role-playing games (RPGs) as a tool for teaching English as a foreign language. The initiative is grounded in Animal Farm by George Orwell, integrating its narrative and symbolic dimensions into an active learning environment.

The study develops a pedagogical design in which students assume different roles within a simulation inspired by the literary work, engaging in dynamics that reproduce its socio-political conflicts. This approach transforms reading into an immersive experience, fostering not only textual comprehension but also communicative practice in English.

The results show a significant increase in student motivation and engagement, as well as improvements in oral interaction and the acquisition of literary content. Furthermore, the proposal contributes to the development of transversal competences such as critical thinking, decision-making, and collaborative work, aligning with student-centered active learning methodologies.

The article is situated within current trends in educational innovation that promote the integration of literature, gamification, and language teaching, providing evidence of the potential of RPGs as a pedagogical resource in secondary and higher education contexts.
