A grey and taciturn Israeli intelligence agent, is assigned a new and delicate mission: he must approach a writer, who is a peace activist, pretending to take a writing course. The goal is to use her to get to an old poet from Gaza who is a close friend of the writer and has terminal cancer. This peculiar mission, which real motive is nor revealed until the end, will trigger a moral and psychological crisis in the agent which will massively affect his family life, his idea of loyalty and even the basis of his existence.

Originally published in 2009, El poeta de Gaza was the beginning of a series of novels that made Sarid one of the main voices of contemporary Hebrew literature in which the most popular elements of the current Israeli society are dissected: military violence, historical memory and family and collective trauma.
