Pastora Filigrana
Gypsy strategies of resistance and feminism
Face-to-face

Universitat de València celebrates the International Day of Women with a conference by Pastora Filigrana about feminism and resistance strategies of gypsy population.

Gypsy human rights activist, feminist, sindicate and work lawyer Pastora Filigrana will hold a conference on 4 March organised by Universitat de València for the International Day of Women. It will take place at 12:00pm, Faculty of Law's hall.

She will talk about feminism with her book “El pueblo gitano contra el sistema-mundo. Reflexionas desde una militancia feminista y anticapitalista” (Gypsy population against the system-world. Reflecting from a feminist anticapitalist perspective), which was published on 2020 and explains the community strategies against capitalism, patriarchy and historic and current colonialism on the gyspsy population, aided by cooperation and mutual support. According to Pastora, gypsy femisim is about questioning the universality white western feminism showcases regarding the inequity to fight and the way to resist.

Rosa Vargas, of Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) will introduce the speaker and act as a moderator. After the debate, there will be a snack pause for gypsy university students and the rest of attendants to interact. You must register your attendance by sending an e-mail to diversitats@uv.es

The event tries to continue the legacy of the First Meeting for University Gypsy Students on 21 last February in Cultural Centre La Nau, with the participation of the CampusRom representatives as well as other entities, such as FSG, Autonomic Federation of Gyspsy Associations in Valencian Community (FAGA), Kali Yag Association and IgualaT service from the Valencian Governemnt, explaining the origin of the project and what their activities are all about.
