6TH SUMMER UNIVERSITY OF ARAS DE LOS OLMOS

Conference on 'PALAEONTOLOGY AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT'

Free registration required at: https://go.uv.es/bgHxnY6

...................................................................................................

The Universitat de València, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society, presents the 6th edition of the Summer University of Aras de los Olmos (UVAO), result of the close collaboration between the Universitat de València and the City Council of Aras de los Olmos.

The region of La Serranía is an area of great importance for palaeontologists. This region was the habitat of large dinosaurs about 145 million years ago (Jurassic-Cretaceous transition). Their fossil remains (footprints and bones) have been found and studied for several decades. Particularly noteworthy are the remains found near the small village of Losilla de Aras de los Olmos of the Losillasaurus giganteus (“Losilla giant lizard”), an imposing dinosaur that lived at the end of the Late Jurassic period, approximately 154-145 million years ago, in the Tithonian, in what is now Europe. In Aras de los Olmos, a life-size replica (more than 20 metres long and 8 metres high) is on display outdoors, which is now joined by the inauguration of the Permanent Exhibition of the Francisco Moreno Mesa Palaeontological Collection in the Big History Centre for scientific and environmental dissemination located in the town.

Specialists in Palaeontology from both the academic world and civil society who have undertaken studies and various initiatives that connect this knowledge with the world of culture and economy will participate in this conference, offering different visions to make relevant proposals for sustainable development of our territories.
