On Friday, September 3^rd at 7:30 p.m., the book Brigadistes. Les Brigades internacionals a Benissa i Dénia. 1937-1938 will be presented at Fundación Família Costa i Costa de Pedreguer. The presentation will be hosted by Robert Llopis i Sendra, the book’s author.

On March 19^th 1973, amidst the Civil War, a reduced number of foreign volunteers was sent to Benissa and Dénia with the mission of installing the first International Brigades’ visitors centres in republican area. The presence of hundreds of foreign combatants and their military hospital had a great impact on the civil population of these Valencian towns. Due to war circumstances, on April 9^th 1938, during a tragic secret operation, the International Brigades were evacuated to Catalonia. What was the situation like when the International Brigades passed by Benissa and Dénia? Who were those men and women of the international health staff? What remains of all that? This book answers all these questions and many more. In short, an overwhelming story.
