They say that biology studies life... and we have had to study it in its most aquatic state! Nor could the Expociència 2026 deluge with the Faculty of Biological Sciences.

On Saturday, 9 May, took place Expociència, the Science Fair organized by the Scientific Park of the University of Valencia. The day began at 10.00 and ended at 14.00, a complicated period of time that was marked by inclemency weather. However, the Faculty of Biological Sciences did not give up and exposed its projects despite doing so in the rain.

NATURA PROJECTS

The entire student body participating was presenting a small demonstration of their work. The Natura Projects are Final Year Papers (TFG) of teaching outreach that aim to bring science closer in institutes and colleges, adapting the level of knowledge in each school year. A fundamental task to awaken new scientific vocationss!

MICROMÓN (Tiny Earth)

The volunteers of the micro-world project were also "cultivating" bacteria and curiosity in the rain. This citizen science initiative addresses microbiology in institutes to raise awareness about the danger of antibiotic resistance and teach about how to combat this global threat from the lab.

ZOOLOGY

From the Department of Zoology, they were even happy to be underwater, since the main activity was devoted to fish! In addition to immersing visitors in the aquatic world, they also taught the secret life of mammals, the importance of symbiosis and how to extract DNA from raspberries, proving that life does not stop even with the strongest storm.

BOTANY

And honoring the plants - which do not move when there is much rain - the Department of Botany resisted until the end with its activity on lichens. These often-overlooked living beings are fundamental to ecological balance: they act as key bioindicators of air quality, form fertile soils and survive in the most extreme ecosystems... just as our botanists did at Expocience!

In addition to all these activities, there were also many other proposals organized by the institutes Biotecmed, Instituto Cavanilles and I2SysBio that, due to the rain and the hectic pace of the day, we could not visit as we would have liked. Finally, we would especially like to thank the involvement of our volunteer students from the four grades of the Faculty, who were all morning advising, explaining and attending the participants with a smile. showing that passion for science is also contagious, even in the rain. And also thank the more than 3,000 visitors who, with umbrellas in hand, filled the Expociència precinct. Your curiosity is the engine that keeps us going, no matter how long it takes.
