Wetland4Change

Project focuses on validating transferable solutions based on the assessment of ecological services and management support to enhance climate adaptation and mitigation. By building the capacity of wetland managers and policymakers at local, regional, and international levels, the initiative aims to tackle the urgent challenges facing these ecosystems.

Key Project Outputs

Tested and Validated Solutions: Two wetland-based solutions, focusing on carbon sequestration and flood regulation, these solutions will be implemented in the 5 pilot sites of the project:

Study sites

      · Albufera of Valencia (Spain)

      · Camargue (France)

      · Oristano lagoons (Sardinia, Italy)

      · Kerkini Lake & Strymon catchment (Greece)

      · Struma catchment area (Bulgaria)

The research of the group of University of Valencia focus, among other aspects of the ecology of fresh water ecosystems, on functional aspects of in land aquatic ecosystems and the environmental impacts (including climate and global change) on biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and ecosystem services. In wetlands, it addresses aspects such as the microbial ecology and biogeochemical cycles, being this focused in how aquatic microorganisms regulate the carbon cycle and the emission/sequestration of GHG.
