The Institut de Drets Humans organizes an international meeting of human rights research centers

Members of various European research centres gathered to discuss on the topic ‘What rights in which Europe?’ on the last 1st and 2nd December. The Human Rights Research Centres Meeting was inaugurated by the general secretary of the Universitat and member of the Institute for Human Rights, María José Añón, on Thursday at 10:00.

The sessions were structured around three main themes: Multiculturalism and Women, pannel chaired by the lecturer Ruth Mestre; Religious diversity in Europe, chaired by the lecturer Ángeles Solanes; and Racial and Ethnic Discrimination in Europe, chaired by the lecturer José García Añón.

The seminar analyzed the development of integration policies and the policies of the democratic management of diversity, and discrimination processes in different areas and European countries were studied. The revision of the theoretical models of integration and cultural accommodation through comparative law and the proposal of interpretative criteria for judicial operators concerning antidiscrimination law were among the topics included. Finally, experts intended to develop a methodology to teach and research into human rights and non-discrimination.

The Office of the Vice-Principal for Research and Scientific Policy, the Spanish Government’s programme Consolider Ingenio and the Valencian Government’s programme Prometeo collaborated in the meeting’s organization.


Created in 2005 and led by the lecturer Consuelo Ramón, the Institute for Human Rights of the Universitat de València has been awarded with the mention of quality by the Spanish Ministry for Education for its doctorate programme in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice. In 2008, the IDH received a grant by the programme Consolider-Ingenio 2010. It takes part in a project made up of twelve research groups and coordinated by the Institute for Human Rights Bartolomé de las Casas from the University Carlos III in Madrid.
