M. Teresa Barber, full university professor of Departament de Bio Bioquímica i Biologia Molecular has been appointed today as Dean of Universitat de València’s Facultat de Farmàcia. The faculty’s board has supported M. Teresa Barber’s application giving her 29 votes. There has been only one blank votes. Barber’s team will be made up of Juan Carlos Moltó, M. Teresa Varea, Teresa M. Garrigues and José M. Centeno.

Teresa Barber got her degree of pharmacy at Universitat de València (1975-1980). She holds a doctorate in pharmacy at the same university (1984) and she is specialized in clinical biochemistry by Ministeri d’Educació (1988). She is a full university professor in the Departament de Bioquímica i Biologia Molecular since 2010, where she had held a research scholaship for teachers training, assistant lecturer and tenured lecturer (1986) previously. She has taught in Factultat de Farmàcia, Medicina and Biologia at Universitat de València and Universitat Politècnica de València. She has taught in undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has participated recently in some projects for teaching innovation at Facultat de Farmàcia.

The new Dean has written many papers for scientific journals of international impact as well as book chapters. She has presented most of her research at different conferences at a national and international level. She was a visiting researcher at Universita' degli studi di Bologna (Italy) and the main researcher for more than a dozen research projects related to molecular basis of nutrition financed by public organisms. She has also supervised seven doctoral theses. For three times, she has received the prestigious prize Primer Premi Nacional d'Investigació per la Real Acadèmia Nacional de Farmàcia (1984, 1991 i 2004). She is member of several scientific associations as well (ANEP, AGAE, among others). Her current specialization is retinoids signalling in different experimental models.

Teresa Barber is Dean of Facultat de Farmàcia since 2010. She has been collaborating for more than twelve years in academic management matters at this faculty. From 1999 to 2010, she has been Vice-dean for Studies. Moreover, she has been vice-president of Comissió Acadèmica del Títol de Farmàcia for twelve years and president of Comitè d'Avaluació de la Titulació de Llicenciat en Farmàcia (ANECA).

During the presentation ceremony, she has pointed out some of her goals as a Dean, such as the promotion of the Faculty’s quality of studies in a framework marked by the adjustement process to European Higher Education Area.
