Vicent Olmos and L’Aplec dels Ports awarded the Premio Vicent Ventura of Universitat

L'Aplec dels Ports.

Vicent Olmos and L’Aplec dels Ports are awarded the Premio Vicent Ventura, which Universitat de València created as a tribute to the journalist, politician and civic activist who died in 1998. The award, which consists on a sculpture of Sebastià Miralles, will take place on April 22nd at 19h at the Paranimf of the Cultural Centre La Nau at Universitat de València.

This recognition is given to people or groups who have distinguished themselves because of their civic, democratic and committed trajectory with Valencian culture and language.

The commission and jury which organises this award is made up of Universitat de València, Universitat Jaume I and people who kept a close relationship with Vicent Ventura, CC. OO., STEPV, UGT, la Unió de Llauradors i Ramaders and la Unió de Periodistes Valencians.

Vicent Olmos is an editor and a historian. “Afers” periodical publication was founded in 1985, and the publisher of the same name, which started working in 1993, has highly contributed to the spreading of the studies about European history in our academic field for the last decades. “Recerca i pensament” collections (with more that seventy published volumes) and “El món de les nacions” make a corpus in these indispensable moments for the study of Catalan culture and for the understanding of the national events at world level. He has also worked at Publicacions of the Universitat de València for many years, where he coordinated several collections, to be pointed out the following: “Cinc Segles” or “Fonts Històriques Valencianes”. In this way, if we add the volumes which Universitat de València has contributed to edit and the more than three hundred volumes published by “Afers”, we could confirm that Olmos’ work as an editor is on an exceptional scale.

L’Aplec dels Ports is the meeting point for young people and for local town people dels Ports and for the neighbouring areas, bound together with two basic aspects: recognition and party.

L’Aplec combines both ludical activities, such as concerts or theatres, and other social ones with a more recognitional character focused on defending the Valencian language and culture, health, education and infrastructure improvement of the region, and focused on the disagreement of “frackling” or the disappearance of the Valencian public radio and television.

For its characteristics, L’Aplec dels Ports is organised every year at a town of a region, together with an organised commission of young people of each town, which Town Hall gives its support and which at every edition it gathers thousand of people.
