Learning from the Man Who Planted Trees

We are presenting an adaptation of a literary work entitled The Man Who Planted Trees, by the Italian writer Jean Giono, first published in 1953.
In the form of a short story, its brevity makes it a compelling read from the very beginning, thanks to its hopeful vision of how we can save our planet in the face of the damage being inflicted upon it by so many wildfires, so much pollution, so much war and destruction, so much drought, and so much abandonment of the countryside…
Symbolically, the story tells us how a traveller, journeying alone through a deserted region of the French Alps during the first half of the 20th century, is astonished by the long-term, selfless work of a shepherd, Elzéard Bouffier, who, despite having lived through the two World Wars, becomes passionately committed to planting trees and restoring as much of the surrounding environment as possible to life
