This expositive project invites us to stop, take a deep breath and deeply appreciate the plants surrounding us, those silent companions that so often go unnoticed. Our starting point is the concept of plant blindness, a phenomenon that makes us ignore the ecological, aesthetical and functional relevance of the flora, treating it as second tier when compared to animals, as if its presence was less vital, less worthy of our time.
Ignored Beauty (Belleza Ignorada) is born from the conviction that this lack of attention is but a veil that hinders the evaluation and protection of vegetal biodiversity, cornerstone of the equilibrium of our planet. To break free from such veil, the project proposes to awaken curiosity and knowledge towards plants, specially through education, planting in society the seeds of sensibility and respect towards living beings.
Spontaneous plants growing around the Burjassot Campus of the Universitat de València, the so called weeds, have been chosen as visual protagonists. This humble species, regular subjects of study in the Botany practical classes, are, in reality, invisible guardians of biodiversity well worthy of our admiration and care.
