SYNOPSIS:
El verano de Cervantes comes from a life of reading Don Quijote de la Mancha.  During the writing process of this book, Antonio Muñoz Molina combines childhood memories and others of his first reads with the revelation of the place that Don Quijote has taken in his literary calling, showing his influence in other authors such as Melville, Balzac, Joyce, Thomas Mann or Mark Twain, who have consolidated novel as the supreme narrative form following the trail left by Cervantes.
An exciting and fascinating read of Don Quijote that mixes extraordinarily literary research and personal memory, and which contextualizes the brilliance of the masterpiece of Cervantes, inexhaustible read to understand the art of novel.
In words of Muñoz Molina, ‘one of the main topics of the novel is the way in which fiction affects, nourishes and entertains the human mind, being able to unhinge it when one can’t tell it apart from reality. This concern seems more relevant in this time when technologies much more powerful than the press have the power to hypnotize our minds until a degree of delirium. After a lifetime of reading Don Quijote, I would like for this book to be able to accompany others on their own reads.’
