This exhibition corresponds to the project presented by Javier Martínez-Fernández and Sergio Sanchis-Pérez as part of the I EDICIÓN ACTIVA CULTURA.

The existence of religion, of nations and their respective borders, and of the act of possessing goods and materials, has for centuries generated intolerence, greed, patriotic attitudes and, ultimately, conflicts between human beings. Or so believed Yoko Ono and John Lennon, authors of "Imagine", global hit which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Written by the Japanese artist and composed and performed by the British musician, the single became a peace anthem in 1971 to denounce a context marked by wars and governmental tensions between different world powers. The song invited us to imagine a setting where religious beliefs, wars, assets and flags would cease to exist so that humanity would live together in a peaceful community.

Half a century later, however, reality has not changed significantly: wars are still being fought, with the indirect participation of the major Western powers; people are still fleeing their homes and losing their lives at sea due to border obstacles between continents; and even in the 21st century, we are still witnessing episodes of religious intolerence and abuses of power by the Church. In short, society has been imagining a better world for fifty years, but the Ono-Lennon utopian dream has not yet been fulfilled.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of "Imagine", song written by Yoko Ono and performed by John Lennon, a musical journey and group exhibition featuring four artists from the emerging art scene is proposed. Sandra Balaguer, Alba González, Laura Reaño and Maia Veka, through different proposals, draw inspiration from this protest song to offer a heterogeneous and personal (audio)visual take. The conflicts caused by religions, borders and capitalism are the focus of the exhibition content through a multidisciplinary and documentary approach that invites reflection on these socio-political factors. Imagine(u) un món millor is presented in a plastic, sculptural, handcrafted, performative and journalistic way, offering a symbiotic space that helps to encourage social commitment.
