Barbara (Jill St. John), the daughter of Phoebe Tuttle (Agnes Moorehead) –a millionaire who owns an important chain of department stores– falls in love with an honest, but a little stupefied character called Norman Phiffier (Jerry Lewis). To prove his incompetence, her wealthy mother hires Norman in one of the stores, giving him the most difficult and varied tasks.
