Yasmina Khadra, pseudonym of the Argelian Mohammed Moulessehoul, was born the 10 January 1955 in Kenadsa, in the Argelian Sahara. Educated as a soldier, he developed his passion for literature while he served in the Argelian army. In the 90s, he adopted his pseudonym to dodge the military censorship, combining his wife's names, and he gained recognition with Morituri, the first novel of the ''Argelian foursome''. In 2000, he left the army and moved to France, where he revealed his identity when he published The Writer. Since then, he has become an international referent in literature, publishing a prolific work that includes titles as The Swallows of Kabul and The Attack.  Two of his novels have been adapted to the cinema, and some other forms of art, consolidating his global impact.

Khadra addresses topics of great relevance in his books, such as the conflicts in the Middle East, the tensions between the East and the West, and radicalism in the Arab world. The defence of women and the focus on female characters appear as a leitmotiv in his work. His style combines direct language with a lyricism full of metaphors, inspired in authors like Saint-Exupéry, addressing complex topics in a poetical way.
He has been honoured with prestigious awards such as the Grand Prix du Roman de l'Académie française, and the Grand Prix de la Littérature Henri Gal. His works have been translated to more than 50 languages, something that reassured his relevant position in the contemporary literature. Yasmina Khadra is still a central figure in universal literature, and his work keeps inspiring readers, reviewers and creators all over.
