‘Madame’
By CienfuegosDanza Company Choreography Yoshua Cienfuegos.

The show Madame, by the company Cienfuegos Danza, revisits the figure of Madame Warton and her tableaux vivants shows that captivated London in the mid-19th century in a proposal where the female figure as a businesswoman, model, actress and dancer is central to the piece.

Inspired by the research carried out by Laura Monrós-Gaspar within the "Literature, Arts and Performance" research group at the Universitat de València, Yoshua Cienfuegos's choreography brings the modelled bodies of Warton's tableaux back to contemporaneity through a reflection on concepts such as the voluptuousness of the female body, the restrictions of femininity in the Victorian era and mythical figures of the Western tradition such as Ariada or the Three Graces.

Research for this show has been funded by the research project AICO/2021/225 of the Valencian Government.
