Out of the mud came the first man and from one of his ribs the first woman. Everything was idyllic until they let themselves be tempted by sin. To love does not seem enough to free oneself from eternal damnation, and if not, just ask Paolo and Francesca, imprisoned amidst flames and wind in Dante's inferno. Beckett, in the 1960s, continued the human tragedy with Winnie and Willie, another pair of anti-heroes, victims of passionate love. The play is a jewel of 20th century theatre and today we want to question ourselves with it.
