Lamps created by the recovery of hangers, or created from plastic wastes which are manufactured using the principles of a cotton candy machine; wardrobe doors transformed in tables; tables made from old oil drums; slippers of recycled plastic which warn the public on the direct relation between consumerism and wastes, a machine that makes pencils... These are some of the more than 30 proposals by international creators who through open design and reuse of wastes move us toward a more sustainable model of development and production, promoting thus new networks of collective creation.
The exhibition which can be visited in the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia until next 11 January is in its sixth edition a benchmark in the area of the reuse of wastes as raw material of new objects and not only this in this occasion intends to educate and ecncourage proselytising for the sustainability cause through design, as presents to the public the pieces and the tools and the processess for making these original designs, which are also respectful with the environment.

Rethinking our home and our lifestyles, proposing practical and sustainable solutions that talk to us about daily life, which are accessible to anyone and reproducible and above all that are respectful with the environment, these are the goals of this project. “We have undertaken a path -said the organisers- where the design is not going to be done only by professionals. Now it makes more sense to choose and existing design and hacking it so this can be adapted to our needs” conclude the people of Makea.
