On 10 December 1948, the United Nations General Assembly publicly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris as a common ideal for all peoples and nations. It was thus an appeal to a sense of responsibility and commitment, establishing a momentous historical milestone in the recognition and affirmation of the unique value of every human life. Behind this proclamation lay the trauma of the Holocaust. A history of hatred and irrationality must never be repeated.

However, today, contempt for human rights continues to give rise to barbarous acts that are an affront to the conscience and progress of humanity. From this perspective, the present exhibition, organised by the Universitat de València and Amnesty International, brings together 30 Valencian artists who, from their own particular perspectives, interpret the principles of human dignity set out in the Universal Declaration, while at the same time putting forward a hopeful proposal intended to awaken and mobilise consciences.
