SENSE ELLES NO HI HA FUTUR (Metges sense fronteres)

Centre Cultural La Nau, Claustre

‘Sin ellas no hay futuro’ exhibition by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) shows the health issues which the women face in the contexts of humanitarian crisis, generally those that they have to see with the reproductive health but also others that refer to the sexual and domestic violence.

The sample gathers photographies and videos of Martina Bacigalupo, Patrick Farrell, Kate Geraghty and Sydelle Willow Smith, realized in contexts in which MSF is employed, as Burundi, Papua New Guinea, Malawi and Haiti. In them, five threats are included in the health and the life of the woman across the testimony of those who suffer them: Chantal, Sylvie, Marlin, Yvonne or Edna have suffered obstetric urgencies or fistulas immediately after giving a birth in the worst conditions. Maybe, they could have been attacked by his husbands, having remained pregnant after a violation, or have HIV and it is afraid to be transmitted to their babies.

Problems related to reproductive health are the leading cause of death among women of childbearing age, such as complications in delivery or the consequences of unsafe abortions. And in violent contexts, the vulnerability of women aggravates; In many places there is no specialized medical assistance for victims of violence, or attention to their injuries or wounds, or prevention of infections, or support in mental health. Visitors will be able to know the stories of these women closely, to check the risks they face each day and to know the simple and economical methods that can save the lives of many of them.
