SIVE DEUS, SIVE DEA

MOVEMENT PERFORMATIVE INSTALLATION

Sive deus, sive dea is an exploration and a critical reflection on the processes stemming from the dichotomous and sexualised symbolisation of the human body and its movement. The piece’s title comes from the Latin proverb sive deus, sive dea, sive mas, sive femina (whether god or goddess, whether male or female), a phrase utilised in the ancient Roman era to express a deity’s unspecified gender and origin.

The piece retakes this phrase –in the same sense of the invocation– and doesn’t focus on what’s defined by either end, but on the importance and main quality of the moving body, whether in an action, a gesture or a posture. Sive deus, Sive dea invokes diversity and variability, that which is not defined by prejudice, rigidity nor contempt.
