Synopsis
Sperhartas of the shadows, with being relegated to the background, with being forgotten; superhartas with an artistic narrative that has silenced unique, personal, and irreplaceable female voices; we are utterly fed up with only being allowed into a museum as “muses of,” “models for,” or “lovers of.” In SuperARTas we go back to come face to face with 28 other female artists from different eras and diverse disciplines—ranging from embroidery to industrial design, from printmaking to religious imagery, and including film and photography—whose work is brought to life through dynamic, carefully crafted texts that find in modern, concise caricature the perfect medium to showcase their immense talent. This pairing serves to demonstrate, once again, that equality in the history of art is far more than necessary.
SuperhART is the perfect conclusion to a project that has sought to establish a direct dialogue between art history and caricature—that branch of illustration not always well known to the general public, but which, after three books and no fewer than 84 female creators, will surely be viewed in a new light.
