In Europe, protective measures in favour of landscapes rich in native nature have broad public support. However, the historic agriculture surroundings, which traditionally supply cities and towns, do not seem to have the same public support. Few measures have been taken to preserve a landscape and agricultural way of life seriously threatened by the food exploitation global system. The region of Horta de València has one of the most fertile soils in the world and comprises a unique environment both for its landscape value and heritage. This region has a unique and important feature: it reflects a historical and equitable system of water use for irrigation that lasts since its inception in the middle ages. Today, the future of this characteristic Mediterranean landscape is at stake.
