Call

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Valencia, in collaboration with the University of Valencia’s Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality, organises the Competition of Mural Painting (Arte Urbano), understanding mural painting as the one produced on an architectonical support that interacts with the urban environment.

The goal is to provide an innovative, urban and attractive identity in Tarongers Campus, increasing its visibility. Furthermore, the competition will allow personal and artistic development of the artists involved in the paintings.

Conditions

Participants

The call is open to plastic artists, legally adults, interested people in participating individually or in groups.

They will have to present a project aiming at doing a mural painting from 25 June to 23 July 2014, in a wall prepared for that at Tarongers Campus, in the area where the Faculty of Social Sciences is located.

Registration and projects

The registration period and application, documentation and project submission will begin the following day of this publication until 30 May 2014. The registration form, available in the website of the Faculty of Social Sciences (http://www.uv.es/socials), and submit it together with the draft of the project).

This information have to be presented in the Office of the Dean at the University of Valencia (Avenida Tarongers, 4b 46021 Valencia).

The personal data treatment will be made accordingly to what the Organic Law 15/1999, 13 December, for personal data protection states.

The painting style and technique will be free. Works with violent, obscene, xenophobic, sexist or any other kind of content that attempt against people’s dignity and the values of the University of Valencia. The dimensions of the wall where the project will be painted are 8 metres wide and 2 metres high.

The project must be original and it must not have been previously done: works previously awarded or awaiting for the resolution of another context or competition will not be accepted. The participants of the competition will be responsible of the ownership and originality of the works accordingly to the terms of the disseminated text of the Law for Intellectual Property, guaranteed by the mere participation in this competition the ownership and originality of the work.

The selected artists must transfer the rights of the project to the University of Valencia, who can use them freely. The Faculty of Social Sciences commits to broadcast the award through the usual means.

Evaluation Committee

The Evaluation Committee will select among the presented projects the one which will win. Among other criteria, the most innovative, creative, original with greater expressiveness and artistic quality will be chosen.

The Evaluation Committee is formed by the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the University of Valencia or a representative; the Vice-Dean for Culture, Participation and Equality of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Valencia; an artist with a prestigious career in urban art; an ADR student of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Valencia; two professors of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universitat Politècnica de València and the Coordinator of the María Moliner Library.

The Evaluation Committee will be ruled according to the regulation college bodies established in the Law 30/1992, of the legal status of public administrations and the common administrative procedure, modified by the Law 4/1999, 13 January.

The competition can be declared void.

Resolution

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Valencia will make public the Evaluation Committee’s resolution through the link of the Office of the Vice-Dean for Culture, Participation and Equality 2 weeks after the application deadline.

Monetary prize

The monetary prize will be of 800 euros, subject to the corresponding deductions according to the current regulation. The awarded person or group will assume the cost of the necessary material to do the project.

Responsibilities of the selected authors

The selected author or group commits to complete the presented project within the established deadline and to accept these terms.

Other provisions

The Evaluation Committee will resolve any situation not expected in the conditions and doubts on those matters.
