Who did write the Cantar de mío Cid, La Celestina or the Lazarillo? How do we value a literary work from its authorship? How do we enrich the interpretation of characters and contexts? Is it better to bury the signing of a narrator or to try to clear it up? Without a doubt, identifying the author allows to understand the true dimension of a work and the torrent of research facilitates the whole interpretation and valuation of each literary text. In the case of the authorship of the Lazarillo, among so many candidates, the personality and literary dimension of Diego Hurtado de Mendoza stands out with his humanist and bibliophile obverse, and his political and opportunistic reverse, «confesando yo no ser más santo que mis vecinos» («confessing myself not being sainter than my neighbours)
