The University Entrance Examinations

A) General Phase

  • Spanish Language and Literature
  • Valencian Language and Literature
  • Foreign Language: students have to choose one language: English, French, Italian, German or Portuguese.
  • History of Spain or History of Philosophy, at the student's choice.
  • A subject in your chosen area of study, whether you attended class or not.

The mark will be valid indefinitely.

B) Specific Phase

This phase is voluntary and aims to improve your mark.

You can take exams in subjects related to your chosen area of studies, whether you have attended class or not.

You may take the exam in the subjects related to your chosen area of studies in the general phase in June but at a different exam session (for example: a person who has taken the Universal Literature exam may retake the same exam in the specific phase in July of the same year or in June of the following year). This possibility is stated in a single Article, point 1 of the Royal Decree 558/2010, of 7 May, which regulates the conditions for access to official undergraduate degree programmes (BOE 8 May 2010).

If you have passed university entrance examinations according to prior legislation (COU, Bachillerato LOGSE) you may take the specific phase to improve your mark in the same way.
The specific phase exams are valid for two consecutive academic years.

Guides and reviews

The marks

The university entrance mark (NAU)

Calculated by taking the cumulative average mark of Bachillerato (60%) and the calculated average (if 4 or higher) of the five general phase exams (40%).

University admission mark (NAT)

This mark is obtained by increasing the university entrance mark (NAU) with the specific phase marks.

The university admission mark is calculated by weighting the scores: the marks of subjects that are linked to the area of knowledge of the chosen degree programme (multiply by 0.1); the marks of the subjects that are chosen by the universities to access each degree programme (multiply by 0.2).

The admission mark may be different depending on which degree programme you applied for in pre-enrolment since weighting is different for the marks of the specific phase subjects (0.1 or 0.2).

Thus, the formula for calculating the university admission mark (NAT) is the following:

  • (CMB x 0.6 + CFG x 0.4) + A x M1 + B x M2

CMB: cumulative average mark in Bachillerato
CFG: general phase mark
A and B: Weighting coefficients according to the link the specific phase subject has to the chosen degree programme (0.1 or 0.2).
M1 and M2: The two best marks form the subjects passed in the specific phase.
