The regulations governing the supervision and co-supervision of doctoral theses in the doctoral program aim to ensure that thesis supervision meets the quality and specialization standards required for the academic development of students. These requirements ensure that supervisors and co-supervisors have the necessary training, experience, and expertise to properly guide research work.
Supervision of doctoral theses in the doctoral program requires that the supervisor holds a doctorate in a program in didactics and in the student's specialization, in addition to having five years of teaching experience and a six-year research record in the specialization in which the thesis is to be developed. If the supervisor does not hold a doctorate in this specialization but has previously supervised a thesis in the student's program and specialization, they may supervise the thesis independently. If the supervisor does not meet these requirements, it will be necessary to appoint a co-supervisor who fulfills the expertise and experience requirements established by these regulations to oversee the thesis.
In the case of retired faculty, they may supervise a doctoral thesis they were already supervising before retirement but cannot act as a tutor for the same. A replacement tutor who is an active member of the program and complies with these regulations must be appointed.
All requests for thesis supervision or co-supervision must be evaluated and approved by the doctoral program committee, which may make the necessary recommendations regarding thesis supervision.
