With a student body approaching 5,000 enrolments in its Doctoral Programmes, the University of Valencia offers one of the broadest doctoral provisions within the Spanish university system the largest in the Valencian Community and demonstrates a well-established track record as a leading institution in the training of top-level research personnel.

The doctoral training offer of the University of Valencia (UV) spans a wide range of fields of knowledge: 17 programmes in Basic Sciences and Engineering, 13 in Health Sciences, 20 in Social Sciences, and 10 in the Humanities. All of them are designed to foster innovation, excellence, and the internationalisation of future PhD graduates.

Internationalisation is one of the strategic pillars of the Doctoral School, with a strong commitment to theses carried out under co-tutelle arrangements with other universities and to those that receive an international mention. In fact, nearly 30% of the theses defended each academic year are developed in collaboration with academic institutions around the world.

The University of Valencia also stands out for its intense research activity, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This scientific output places it among the best-positioned Spanish universities in the leading international rankings. It hosts joint research institutes with the CSIC and has received excellence distinctions such as the “Severo Ochoa” and “María de Maeztu” seals.

With the aim of attracting and fostering research talent, the UV offers specific programmes such as the “Attraction of Talent” predoctoral grants, which allow top students to develop their careers at the institution. This is complemented by support for predoctoral mobility, short research stays abroad for academic staff, and the participation of visiting researchers, all within an environment with state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure and access to pre-competitive projects and European programmes.

As part of its commitment to innovation and knowledge transfer, the UV promotes the “Valora y Transfiere” programme, aimed at proof-of-concept projects. It also encourages Industrial PhDs and other collaborative modalities with companies and public and private institutions, strengthening the link between university research and the productive sector.

In this context, the Science Park of the University of Valencia stands out, hosting more than 90 innovative companies arising from scientific activity. In addition, the UV has a business incubator for spin-offs and emerging projects, as well as three business nurseries that provide an ideal environment for the development and consolidation of startups and new technological initiatives.
