In recent decades, research in the area of Neurosciences has made startling discoveries that have transformed and improved our understanding about brain function. This has contributed to the development of new treatments and therapies for several neurological and mental disorders. The convergence of different disciplines has made possible to deal with fundamental issues, allowing us to better understand the behavior and emotions in humans. Our group is part of this area, the Neurosciences, one of the most exciting areas of research in Health Sciences. The Laboratory of Social Cognitive Neuroscience (LabNSC) of the University of Valencia is part of the Department of Psychobiology of the Faculty of Psychology and the IDOCAL Research Institute.

It has developed, from his beginnings, investigations focused on studying the biological bases of the animal and human response to social interactions, especially stress situations. Specifically, we are interested in psychobiological mechanisms involved when we are faced with a stressful situation and its effects on emotional and cognitive level. The research carried out in our laboratory adopts an integrative approach based on the convergence of multiple study methodologies that allow us to advance in the understanding of the effects of stress in the brain, and as a consequence in the psychological processes and the conduct

In our studies in humans we use extensive neuropsychological assessments, electrophysiological records and neuroendocrine response analysis, our target population being both young and old, of both sexes. In addition, we studied the effect of stressful situations and the activity of the hypothalamus-hypophysis-adrenal axis in a healthy population and with diseases associated with aging (Mild Cognitive Impairment, Type II Diabetes, etc.). The work we carry out in mice, focus on the application of different paradigms of stress and assessments of the effects on their behavior.
