In education, there are several myths and misconceptions that are so widespread among teachers that they make it difficult to make informed decisions (Ruiz-Martín et al., 2022). Some of these myths are related to students with special educational needs (SEN), which often lead to ineffective pedagogical practices and stigmatisation of these students. Lack of access to and understanding of current scientific literature encourages reliance on anecdotal or personal experiences, further perpetuating confirmation bias (Rousseau, 2021).
This study examines the prevalence of myths associated with learning and the SEN population among trainee teachers. It also examines the sources of these beliefs and implements a pilot intervention, through explanatory videos, to disprove them. The research is part of the teaching project ‘From scientific article to YouTube video: debunking myths in the area of Special Educational Needs’. UV-SFPIE_PDI-2728443’, the preliminary results of which will be presented in the lecture.
