READit VMS

READit VMS is a mobile application that facilitates the content of variable message signs (VMS) while driving a vehicle. The application locates the user via GPS and reads the text and pictograms of the VMS aloud when the driver approaches. Therefore, READit VMS allows the VMS content to be known in advance when driving circumstances are adverse (e.g., fog, heavy traffic, night driving, or VMS failure) or when the driver has difficulties in reading (e.g., an older person or with dyslexia). The application was developed by the ERI-Lectura lab at the University of Valencia. Financial support was provided by Dirección General de Tráfico [Directorate-General for Traffic] (project SPIP2017-02132).

No processing of personal data is expected. Only GPS tracking information will be used.

3. Other data treatments
The application does not use cookies or performs additional data treatments to those strictly necessary to ensure its operation in the different operating systems of mobile devices.

4. Third parties
The application is available in the following application distribution platforms: App Store and Google Play. The processing of personal data, the use of cookies, or other devices are ruled by the privacy policies and conditions of use of the distributors themselves.

The installation conditions from the corresponding application distributors are the following:

The application must be allowed:
- Network communication: unlimited internet access.
- System tools: preventing the phone from going into idle mode, modifying global system settings.
- Network communication: receiving data from the internet, seeing the status of the network.
- Hardware controls: accessing to GPS tracking or an analogous system with the same geo-positioning purposes.

5. Users under age.
This service is intended for drivers willing to receive the information shown on variable message signs located at public roads to help a safer and more efficient driving, and thus no users under the age of 14 are expected.

6. Service cancellation.
To cancel the service, you must simply uninstall the application from the mobile device. No information about the users of the application is registered.

7. Exercise of rights.
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, deletion, treatment limitation or objection, as well as the right of data portability, by writing to:
